What is a Clinical Trial?
New drugs or treatments must be shown to be both safe and effective before they are approved by the US Food And Drug Administration (FDA). A Clinical Trial is part of the FDA's approval process for these new treatments. Clinical trials are carefully conducted research studies designed to test potential medications/treatments in human volunteers to see if they should be approved for use in the general population. Clinical trials are carried out in four phases, each phase progressively involving a larger number of people.
